IIWTL
It's my birthday, so I figured this might be a way to spend some time contemplating what I want.
None of the thoughts in this writing are binding or a promise of any future results. The sole and exclusive purpose of this post is a place for me to explore my brain's desires if money were not a factor.
The easy items, first:
-
Stability: I think the first thing I want is to feel financially stable again. Pay off what I owe and have a cash buffer in the bank again.
-
Family "Repayment": The last year has been rough and family's helped me a lot in this time. I'd love to send some cash that way to "repay" their kindness, plus some as "interest". They've said I don't owe them anything, but I still feel like I do.
-
Car Detailed: Oh my car needs detailed, and wouldn't it be nice to get her nice and pretty again? Especially those darned water spots from the sprinklers, curse them.
-
Gifting: I'd almost certainly do some gifting, but I don't feel it wise to write out anything in that vein here. People get weird about that shit.
Housing and Location
I'd love to get back into somewhere that I like more than my current location. Some of the key things I'd prefer to find are:
- Perhaps back up in the PNW again, since the weather is nice year round. Although, the tax situation up there isn't as great, there's trade offs everywhere.
- Preferrably 2 bedrooms; one of the bedrooms would be for exercise, gaming, and hobby stuff.
- Lots of natural light, and a view that the dog can enjoy (floor to ceiling windows). This one is a bit weird, but I loved that Baku seemed happy splooting on the floor while watching the birds.
Health
There's a few things that come to mind here:
- I'm getting old enough that a vasectomy is probably the way to go. It's unlikely, at this point, that I'll end up having kids (39 + 3 + 18 == fucking old) Additionally, most states reveal a winner's legal name and city, so a vasectomy reduces risk.
- Getting a gym membership and trainer. I'm unquestionably overweight and so investing in that probably makes a lot of sense. That and it has a very real chance of helping to increase my happiness factor in the long term.
- I've been putting off dental so I should get on top of that again, even the more cosmetic work.
Flight (PPL)
I've been wanting to learn to fly for a few years now, so I'd probably prioritize that.
Best I can tell, I've been putting it off for a few reasons:
- Medical Certificate: A part of me is worried I'll hit complications here, and it'll cost me $$$$ and a lot of time to get through the process. Will I? Who knows, but gosh that list looks rough.
- Cost: The cost of getting a PPL is estimated at around $15,000 and that's just getting started. If I decide I like it enough to make a job of it, it'll likely run me $100,000 to get the 1500 hours.
- Time: That's a lot to study and practice.
Either way, IIWTL, all of the above factors are at least alleviated, and I can persue that freely. Wouldn't that be nice? I think so!
"Closing" thoughts
I feel like myself just a few years ago could come up with a longer list. Right now, this is all that really comes to mind.
It feels strange having such a short list.
I could add things like "travel" but that feels hollow comparatively. It'd happen, but I have no major destinations that I want to visit currently, compared to the rest of the items above.
I wonder what sort of fruit this exercise will produce later on, once I feel stable again... Onward.
